The world,
by ear.
whisp.earth is a listening map. Spin the globe, tap a place, and hear what it actually sounds like — a Chamonix street market, rain over Bohemia, Etna venting, chickens in a German farmyard.
Why sound
Looking shows you a place. Listening puts you inside it.
A photograph frames a place from the outside. A field recording surrounds you from within it: the language on the street, the weather overhead, how far away the traffic is, whether the birds have decided it is morning yet. Sound carries the parts of somewhere that a camera walks straight past.
Every recording on whisp.earth was made by a person standing somewhere real — microphones in the rain, beside a river, at a protest, on a volcano. Nothing is synthesised and nothing is looped from a sound library. You are hearing the planet, one place at a time.
